In August I made a trip to Diamantina National Park with a friend. On the way we stopped at Bowra Sanctuary near Cunnamulla and also Welford National Park. 11 new birds were videoed: Bourke’s Parrot, Painted Honeyeater, Hall’s Babbler, Chestnut-crowned Babbler, Splendid Fairy-Wren, Black-tailed Native-Hen, Red-necked Avocet, Spinifex Pigeon, Chestnut-rumped Thornbill, Southern Whiteface and Gibberbird. In addition excellent footage was obtained of 10 species that were in need of extra material: Singing Honeyeater, Yellow-throated Minor, Red-capped Robin, Wedge-tailed Eagle, Australian Bustard, Spotted Bowerbird, Black-faced Woodswallow, Mallee Ringneck, Banded Lapwing, Mulga Parrot. Extra material was also obtained for about 30 species. That makes 346 species. Only 54 to go!!
It was an amazing 2 week trip and I would strongly recommend Bowra Sanctuary to any birdwatcher – over 80 species often seen in a day by the people staying there.
